Agile Publishing started publishing scientific texts at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. A group of academic scholars either invested in the company or published via it. Among the founders were Professor Ali Harlin, Professor Mikko Ketovuori, Dr. Pasi Malmi, and Dr. Osmo Jauri. Several authors published via Agile Publishing during years 2020 and 2021, and Agile Publishing had a cooperation contract with Professor Juha Hakala. In the beginning of year 2021, Agile Publishing won the second price in the Innovation competition of the Media Industry Research Foundation of Finland.
In year 2022, Agile Publishing published its first printed book and audiobook, "Laumavaiston varassa" (Ketovuori 2022). By the end of year 2023, the book had been sold out, and is now available only as an audiobook. Despite the success, years 2022 and 2023 were also difficult times for Agile Publishing, as the owners had a disagreement of the corporate strategy: Dr. Malmi promoted the publication of peer reviewed on-line publications in English, whereas Dr. Ketovuori wanted to focus at the publication of non-beer reviewed printed books in the Finnish language. This conflict was resolved by a rearrangement of the ownership of the company. Currently the company is owned by an external investor and Dr. Malmi is the Chairman of the Board.
According to the new strategy of the company, Agile Publishing publishes only peer reviewed articles and books, and only in the English language. Our focus will be in humanistic and social sciences: Archaeology, history, human genetics, linguistics, onomastics, and social sciences. The peer review process is managed by FM Esko Clarke-Sario, who also acted as the CEO of the company during years 2020-2023.
